Temporary Stabilising System

Conclusion

Following the demonstrations of the Stonesafe stabilising system at various cemeteries, it has been drawn to our attention that the system is also suitable where concrete rafters or beams are being cast by local authorities to take memorial stones.

Stonesafe have adapted their system so that it is ideal specifically for fitting headstones to these pre-formed foundations.

The Test (University of Southampton Report)

The University of Southampton issued a Test Certificate for a “pushover test on a memorial stone support system for the Memorial Stone Centre (Stonesafe) on 17th May 2004.

A test set up carried a maximum load of 250kg without any obvious signs of damage. At this load there was a visible lean to the Headstone.

The specimin would have carried more load but the end of the jack travel had been reached.

On load removal there was recovery of most of the deflection of the Headstone. It was not possible to move the installation by hand.

On stripping down it was found that the studs had started to pull from the headstone and the stone had cracked near the base.

Conclusion: The specimin successfully carried a load significantly in excess of the maximum projected load requirement of 150kg
